Oceancare – Expertise and Passion for living oceans

OceanCare has been committed to marine wildlife protection since 1989. Through research and conservation projects, campaigns, environmental education, and involvement in a range of important international committees, OceanCare undertakes concrete steps to improve the situation for wildlife in the world’s oceans. In 2011, OceanCare was granted Special Consultative Status on marine issues with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.
Our fields of work

Ocean conservation
OceanCare has made underwater noise an agenda item for the United Nations and works to ensure that ocean noise pollution is being reduced. OceanCare also focuses on the reduction of plastic, oil and chemical pollution of the oceans. learn more

Protecting Whales
OceanCare advocates enforcement of the ban on whaling and raises awareness about the contamination of whale and dolphin meat and the associated health threats to consumers. Since 1992, OceanCare has represented the interests of cetaceans at the International Whaling Commission (IWC). learn more

Conservation of biodiversity
OceanCare maintains research and conservation projects for threatened marine mammals and advocates for increased habitat protection, including on the high seas. In 2004 OceanCare became a partner organisation to the agreement of Mediterranean riparian states on cetacean conservation (ACCOBAMS). learn more

Raising awareness
Through environmental awareness campaigns on fish consumption, plastic use and other issues, OceanCare calls for responsible action from the general community. As an expert in marine protection, OceanCare cooperates with media and supports improvement in the sustainability of the travel industry.
