What I left behind…

I recently went to Canada for 2.5 weeks and It was the first Canadian Summer for me in over 4 years. In general, I have been going home for Christmas, but during the previous years it has been lacking snow and doesn’t feel the same. Without the snow and during the Christmas holidays, I feel a bit lost. Many of my friends are away, there is a family overdose, and at times I feel restless.

For the first time since years, I would be in Canada during the Summer. I felt my heart pounding again. It felt like home again, I felt a closeness. This trip felt different from others… ‘home is home’.  I got to explore Canada like I’ve never seen it before.

My wife brought her best friend Simone along and she had only known Canada through my explanations.  The trip brought us through massive distances from Sonora Island – Vancouver – Whistler – 100 Mile House and to Canim Lake… The kilometers travelled and the various landscapes of mountains, plateau’s, and deserts we passed. My friend Simone said “I think this is only a taste of what Canada is like”.

During our time in and around the Caribou Country, there is a small community of Swiss and Germans that live in the area. This is somewhat funny to me, especially with my current living situation. Wherever I go, the Swiss life surrounds me, but I know in my heart, Canada is home and I will be back for more of it.
